Roselands holds nearly 200 years of history. One family lived here for two whole generations.Original features offer a little insight into ordinary life at the time. A bread oven and prover could tell a rich story of their own. While, the oak timber over the Baker's Oven was probably a relic from a ship at the time this fireplace was constructed. The Maritime community in Pill reflects this. Pill Hobblers played a vital role as Ships sailed in from long spells on the high seas. Looking into the depths of the house, walls constructed of brick, wooden spacers and lime mortar can be identified and admired. These same walls needed a lot of help in the preservation process!

Setting the scene in the late19th century: Imagine freshly baked bread. The aroma wafts enticingly around the house. Laughter may be heard in the distance as children run into the apple orchard to pick laden fruit trees. A smart modernisation progressed over the decades. This was clear from the relics found around this home. The Old English Garden was laid out at the turn of the 19th century which remains in tact today. A proud addition of its time, was the privy found in the hedgerow. Even the old bowl is there and intact! Taxes have always been a cause for concern. At the time of the window tax, some windows were blocked up. It took 150 years for me to open them up.

The house has been extended. The 'two up, two down' is a thing of the past. All the original footprint was preserved and improved with modern building techniques like damp proofing, insulation and a new roof. Furthermore, a string of new rooms were added to create the home it is now.
